Pastor Appreciation Sunday-We will be having a time of Pastor Appreciation after the 8:30 am worship service on October 8th in the Overflow Area with a cake to show our appreciation for Pastor Steve. Please plan to attend and share in the fellowship.
CommunityVBS Planning Meeting is scheduled in the Bethany UMC Library on Sunday, October 8th at 5:00 pm. Your input and help is important for the success of VBS.
A Bethany Blessings Meeting is scheduled for October 9th at 4:30pm in the Library.
Clothing Giveaway - Our next Clothing Giveaway will be held on Saturday, October 14th from 9-11 am in the Big Room. If you know someone who can use Fall clothing, please spread the word! We are currently collecting FALL clothing. Children's clothing is always needed! Setup for the giveaway will be Friday, October 13th. Please help setup for the Giveaway if you can.
An American Red Cross Blood Drive is scheduled for October 30th in the Fellowship Hall from 1:00-6:00 pm. Please donate blood if you are able to. Thank you.
Cleaning Kit Supplies - We are asking for donations for the Cleaning kit supplies (flood buckets) NOW, as we are not waiting until our Charge Conference to send them. Pastor Steve will deliver them via Agape. Also, if you would rather give a monetary donation, you can give it to Barb Kleckner OR bring it into the office in an envelope clearly marked "FLOOD BUCKETS”.
Prayer Time – A time for prayer is held in the Library every Sunday morning at 8:00 am. All are welcome to share in prayer.
Staff Meeting – The Staff members will be meeting in the Library on Monday, October 23rd at 6:00 pm.
Grief Support Group - A Grief Support Group meets each Monday at 6:30 pm in Room 2 The Group is led by Joan Harmon. Everyone is welcome.
A+ Giant- Starting on September 11, 2017, Bethany Blessings - ID #01530 has the opportunity to participate in and earn CASH from A+ School Rewards, a great fundraising program run through your local GIANT! Remember: If you supported our school last year, you DO NOT need to register your card again.
Partners in Christ Sunday School Class- On Sunday, September 24, the Partners in Christ Sunday School Class started a new study entitled “Revealing the Mysteries of Heaven.” In this study we will research many of the questions that you have pertaining to Heaven. We may not find all the answers to your questions, but we will explore what the Bible has to say about Heaven. If you have an interest, please join us in the Stain Glass room and enjoy the fellowship. Be prepared to ask questions. All are welcome!
Social Concerns - We are looking for someone to head Social Concerns and Funeral meals. Willa will be stepping down and we need someone to fill this important ministry position. Please talk with Pastor Steve of your interest. Willa is willing to help you learn with what the needs are.
Finance- The Finance Committee will be meeting in the Library on November 9th at 6:30 pm.
New Members Class. If you would like to join as a member of Bethany UMC we will be beginning a New Members Class on Sunday, October 22 and ending on November 26th. There will be six sessions altogether, meeting each Sunday at 9:45-10:45 am in the pastor's office. Candidates for church membership need to be at least 13 years old or have completed the sixth grade. The class will be studying “A Disciple’s Path”. There is no charge to participate in the class. Please sign the sign-up sheet in the Overflow area if you are interested.
“A Disciple’s Path” is a program that guides individuals to take the next step in discipleship and become dynamic, engaged followers of Jesus Christ. The study combines a Wesleyan understanding of our growth in God’s love and grace with the time-tested practices of spiritual discipline expressed in the membership vows to uphold the church with our prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness. Participants will develop spiritual practices, discover their unique gifts, and become engaged in ministry that brings transformation in their own lives, the lives of others, and the world.
All Saints Sunday is November 5.- Both worship services will have a remembrance of those loved ones who have passed away since last year’s All Saints Day, Nov 6, 2016. Please let us know your loved ones name by filling out the sheet on the information desk. Please submit a photo if you would like that included in the service. Deadline for photos and all other information is October 22nd.
Quilters – The Quilters meet each Monday in the Stained Glass Room at 2:00 pm. The quilters make quilts for the area homeless. Everyone is welcome to help with this ministry. June Sitler is the coordinator for the quilters.
Pieces of Prayer have their meetings at 6:30 pm in the Stained Glass Room on the First and Third Wednesdays each month.
Pink Tote Outreach - We are asking for donations of jars of peanut butter and Jelly for our outreach mission. We are also asking for cash donations to purchase the bread before the giveaway. We will be holding the PB&J care pack giveaway’s the 3rd Wednesday of every month. It will be an honor system from 8:00 am – 8 pm. Totes will be located under the canopy at the back of the church. We have handed out flyers to several needy homes close to the church and the balance of the items collected will be distributed to The Gate House in Danville and the Woman’s Shelter. Your donations are greatly appreciated. A pink tote will be placed in the back of the sanctuary for donations. Cash donations can be dropped off at the church office or put in the special offering envelopes and placed in the offering plate. Please mark your envelopes PB&J outreach. Extra Mile Giving for October – October’s Extra Mile giving will go to Pete and Carole Unseths and their work of teaching missionaries at Wycliffe Bible Translators. So many within our Lewisburg District know the anguish of living through floods and their devastating aftermath. From Berwick to Selinsgrove, Shickshinny to Bloomsburg, and many other places, you have experienced returning home, not even sure where to begin. Hopefully, you also received help and encouragement on that painful journey.
My heart is breaking at what we see happening along the Gulf Coast. When our heart breaks for the plight of another, it is often when God wants to use us for a mighty purpose.
So I’m challenging us, as United Methodist Christians in the Lewisburg District, to shine the light of Christ in a powerful way by collecting Cleaning Kits (formerly known as Flood Buckets) to help replenish the supplies that will surely be decimated by the needs following Harvey.
Between now and our Cluster Charge Conferences, I’m asking you to work together in your church or charge to compile as many Cleaning Kits as possible. Place the attached list in bulletins and newsletters. Contact businesses and other organizations for help. Then, bring them with you to Charge Conference, and we will pray over them together before seeing that they make their way to Mission Central for distribution through our UMCOR partners.
Some of our churches may be able to pull together 2 or 3 buckets. Some may be able to collect 10 times that, or more. What matters is that, when we all do our part, we’ll find that we are, indeed, better together!

Safe Sanctuary – All volunteers and employees must turn in their Safe Sanctuary certificates and all other clearances to the Church Office as soon as possible. All Clearance documentation must be kept in the Church office. Thank you.
Prayer requests reminder: We keep people’s names on the “Current Prayer” list for 3 weeks and then names are moved to the “Continue to Pray For” list for 3 weeks before being removed from the bulletin unless otherwise requested. The Beacon contains the complete list and a requested long-term prayer list.
If you are hospitalized and desire a pastoral visit, you will need to contact the church office. Because of HIPAA laws the hospital does not give out information and even a hospital worker saying they will contact your pastor does not necessarily mean that it happens. HIPAA law does not recognize a person's nickname, so please let the pastor know of the person's given name as well.
Transportation Ministry – Would you be willing to give transportation to a few of our parishioners who are unable to drive to the church on Sunday mornings for worship services? Please contact Pastor Steve or Connie. The van ministry needs your help because this is a very important ministry we do not want to lose.
