Becoming a Member
Rushing off to work. Coming home tired. Paying the bills. Fixing the car. Raising the kids. Doing your taxes. Have you ever wondered, “Is that all there is? Is life just an endless cycle of eating, sleeping, buying, selling, getting, losing and growing older?” Does your heart ever long for something more?
If so, we’re here to help. We want to show you how a personal relationship with Jesus Christ can lead you home, bring you into God’s eternal family, and introduce you to life on a whole new level.
We believe that God desires every Christian to become a member of a local church. Becoming a member of a church can be a life-changing decision. Therefore, we want you to take time to get to know our church, learn how we are fulfilling God's command to build His kingdom and see how we love and relate to one another in daily life. If you are looking for a church home where you can deepen your faith, we extend to you a warm invitation to join the family of Bethany United Methodist Church. Membership is open to all who sincerely desire to be Christian in faith and practice.
You may become a member of Bethany by transfer of your membership from any other Christian church or by the profession of your faith in Jesus Christ. The Pastor will be happy to discuss this process with you privately.
If you desire to become a member of our church, we invite you to attend our members class as a first step. During that class, you can learn more about our church's core values, vision for ministry, and the privileges and responsibilities of formal membership. Attending the class will not obligate you to become a member. If attending the membership class convinces you that joining our church will help you to grow in your ability to love and serve God, we would be delighted to have you become a member of our body. By joining our church, you're demonstrating your desire to unite with Bethany in carrying the “Great Commission” to make disciples for Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Membership also will allow you to enjoy ministry opportunities and privileges by serving in the following ways:
• You may participate and vote in congregational meetings, where we seek to discern and plan how to follow God's vision for our church.
• Serving the children and youth in our church (after completing our standard screening process).
• You can seek more opportunities to use your spiritual gifts, including those of teaching, serving and leading within the body.
If you would like to learn more about the importance of church membership, please attend our membership classes. Pastor Portner would be happy to discuss any questions or concerns you may have about membership.
